James Westley Freeman1

     James Westley Freeman was born on 8 October 1847 at South Carolina.2,3 Conflicting evidence places his birth on 6 October 1842 at South Carolina.1,4 James Westley married Amanda Dawkins, daughter of William Dawkins and Sarah (?), in October 1869 at South Carolina.5,6,4,7 James died on 26 April 1920 at age 72 years, 6 months and 18 days at South Carolina.2,3 He was buried at Smyrna United Methodist Church in Lugoff, Kershaw County, South Carolina.3,2
     

James began military service when he enlisted in Company C Regiment, of 12 SC Battalion under Captain H. C. Davis on 11 April 1861. While traveling to Richmond, Virginia, he was captured at Petersburg, Virginia, and kept a prisoner for three months at Hart's Island, New York.1,8 James ended military service on 9 April 1865 at Virginia.1
