The tenth United States census was taken in 1880. Joseph was enumerated as "Joseph Eagle", head of a household at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri. His given age was 49 and his given place of birth was Baden. He was married, and was a farmer. Enumerated with him was his wife, Sibella Engle. Also enumerated in his household were Magdallena Engle, Anton Engle, George Engle, Jacob Engle, John Engle, Mary Engle and Girtie Engle.2

     Agnes Catherine Ess was born on 4 October 1863 at Iowa.8,9,4 She was the daughter of John Ess and Jeanette Burns.4,5,6,7 Agnes Catherine married Elvington B. Mallory, son of Elvington Mallory and Tabitha Young, on 3 February 1887 at Missouri.10 Agnes died on 31 March 1920 at age 56 years, 5 months and 27 days at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri.4,8 (Click on the icon to see the image.).4 She was buried on 3 April 1920 at Macedonia Cemetery in Audrain County, Missouri.4,8

     Catherine M. Ess was born in May 1848 at Audrain County, Missouri.5,6 She was the daughter of John W. Ess and Margaret Burkey.2,3,4 Conflicting evidence places her birth in 1848 at Boone County, Missouri.2 Catherine M. married Louis Burkey, son of Peter Burkey and Mary Magdaline Sipp, on 20 November 1866 at Audrain County, Missouri, in a ceremony performed by W. F. Elllington Minister of the Gospel.7 Catherine died on 5 December 1913 at age 65 years and 7 months at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri.2 (Click on the icon to see the image.).8 She was buried on 6 December 1913 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri.2
     

Catherine was also known as Kate Ess.9 She was also called Katy Ess.5

Her given age was 52, and she was said to have been born in Missouri in May 1848. She was married, and was said to be the mother of two children, both of whom were living. (Actually, she had five children, and 4 were living in 1900, although only two were living in her household.) She rented her home. Also enumerated in her household were Minnie M. Burkey and Lizzie May Burkeye.6

The thirteenth United States census was taken in 1910. Catherine was enumerated in the household of Charles Leonidas Pollard as his mother-in-law, "Kate Ess", at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri. Her given age was 62 and her given place of birth was Missouri. She was a widow, and her occupation was recorded as "own income."9

The cause of Catherine's death was acute indigestion.2
