Samuel Cox1

     Samuel married Mary Turner, daughter of Cornelius B. Turner and Sarah Sweeney, on 2 May 1811 at Warren County, Kentucky, in a ceremony performed by Edward Turner.1
     

Samuel and Mary Turner obtained a marriage bond at Warren County, Kentucky. John Cox signed the bond as surety with Samuel Cox. "Phinahas Cos" (sic), father of the groom, gave consent for Samuel Cox, and the bride's consent was given by her father, Cornelius Turner.1

Samuel Cox signed the marriage bond of William C. Turner as surety on 1 December 1819 at Warren County, Kentucky.2

     Solomon Cox was born on 17 May 1788 at Deep River, Orange County, North Carolina.1 He was the son of Enoch Cox and Mary Mackey.1 Solomon married Deborah Collins on 27 October 1809 at Grayson County, Virginia, in a ceremony performed by Rev. George Keith.2 Solomon died on 25 November 1849 at age 61 years, 6 months and 8 days at Gilroy, Santa Clara County, California.3
     

Solomon moved to Dover, Lillard County (now Lafayette County), Missouri from Grayson County, Virginia in 1817.4

The fifth United States Census was taken in 1830. Solomon was enumerated as "Sollomon Cox", head of a household at Lafayette County, Missouri. His household consisted of two males under 5 years of age, three males of 5 and under 10, one male of 10 and under 15, one male of 30 and under 40, one female under 5, one female of 5 and under 10, and one female of 30 and under 40.5

Solomon Cox obtained a land patent for 80 acres at Lexington, Lafayette County, Missouri, on 1 November 1830. The land was located in the west 1/2 of SE 1/4, section 20, township 51, range 25.6 (Click on the icon to see the image.).

The sixth United States Census was taken in 1840. Solomon was enumerated as "Solom Cox", head of a household at Lafayette County, Missouri. His household consisted of one male under 5 years of age, one male of 5 and under 10, one male of 10 and under 15, one male of 15 and under 20, one male of 20 and under 30, one male of 50 and under 60, one female of 10 and under 15, one female of 15 and under 20, and one female of 50 and under 60.7

Solomon made a will on 24 April 1849 at Lafayette County, Missouri. George B. Warren and J. L. Warren witnessed the will. Charles F. Ustick was the executor, and Jesse Cole and Henry Cole were Secs. His heirs were his wife Deborah Cox, and mention was made of 10 children now living, including "our youngest children, Mary, William, Lewis and Robert, Charlotte Cox, widow of late son Elias Cox, grandchildren, John W. Cox and Henry Cox."8

Solomon went to Santa Clara, California at the time of the gold rush in 1849. He died there later that year.3

The estate of Solomon Cox was admitted for probate on 5 March 1850 at Lafayette County, Missouri.8
