     Samuel Vaughn was born on 12 December 1842 at South Carolina.1,2 He was the son of Archibald Vaughn and Elizabeth (?).1,3,2 Samuel Vaughn married Dulcey Elmore.2 Samuel died on 2 July 1928 at age 85 years, 6 months and 20 days at South Carolina.2 He was buried at in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.2
     

The seventh United States census was taken in 1850. Samuel was enumerated as "Samuel Vaughn", in the household of Archibald Vaughn at Greenville District, South Carolina. His given age was 10 and his given place of birth was South Carolina.1

The eighth United States census was taken in 1860. Samuel was enumerated as "Samuel Vaughn", in the household of Archibald Vaughn at Greenville District, South Carolina. (There are two Samuel Vaughns listed in this household on lines 7 and 8. The first is a 20 year old male born in South Carolina, who was a farmer. The second is an 18 year old male born in South Carolina, who was also a farmer. The 18 year old Samuel Vaughn attended school).3

Samuel began military service when he joined the Confederate Army as a private assigned to Hampton Legion, Company of Captain L. M. Austin on 12 June 1861 at South Carolina. He was captured at Deep Bottom on Sept. 29, 1864, and was confined as a prisoner of war at Bermuda Hundred, Virginia. He was paroled (or exchanged) on March 17, 1865.2

At the age of 65, Samuel was widowed 22 April 1908 when his wife Dulcey died.2

His given age was 26 and his given place of birth was South Carolina. He had been married for 7 years, and was a farmer on a rented farm. Enumerated with him was his wife, Ida Vaughn. Also enumerated in his household were Harold Vaughn, Lenora Vaughn, John Findley Vaughn and Mattie Lou Bell.3
