Vaughn, Mary Vaughn, James Madison Vaughn, Harriet Vaughn, Samuel Vaughn, John Thomas Vaughn and Rose Margaret Vaughn.2

The eighth United States census was taken in 1860. Archibald was enumerated as "Archy Vaughn", head of a household at Greenville District, South Carolina. His given age was 47 and his given place of birth was South Carolina. He was a farmer. The value of his real estate was not given and the value of his personal estate was $500. Also enumerated in his household were Elizabeth Vaughn, Amanda Louisa Vaughn, Mary Vaughn, Harriet Vaughn, Samuel Vaughn, John Thomas Vaughn, Rose Margaret Vaughn and Mary Vaughn.3

Archibald began military service with the Hampton Legion of the Confederate Army in June 1861 at Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. He was 56 years of age when he enlisted. He was assigned to Company F and stationed at Camp Cannon. He also served in Captain James S. Austin's Company D.1 Archibald ended military service on 7 September 1861. He was discharged because of age and paid $52.16 when discharged.1
