James served in the military as a Confederate soldier at Missouri.6

James acquired 120 acres east of Hallsville Boone County, Missouri from W. K. Sturgeon 10 September 1875.6

His obituary appeared on 13 May 1912 in the newspaper "The Columbia Daily Tribune" at Boone County, Missouri. Mary Oliva Sturgeon, Alonzo Mordecai Turner, Orville Hume Turner, Claude Perry Turner, Dr. John William Turner, George Lee Turner, Navy Turner and Mary Delia Cox were named as survivors.6

     James Turner Sr. was born on 21 November 1755 at Rowan County, North Carolina.3,4 He was the son of Thomas Turner and Catherine Smith.2 James Turner Sr. married Jemima Wells circa 1775 at Rowan County, North Carolina.5 James died on 10 September 1834 at age 78 years, 9 months and 20 days at Boone County, Missouri.6 He was buried at Boone County, Missouri.7
     

James Turner Sr. signed the marriage bond of Enoch Turner as surety on 18 December 1811.8

James Turner Sr. was named as an heir in the will of Thomas Turner on 18 May 1815 at Madison County, Kentucky.9

James moved to Boone County, Missouri from Kentucky in 1817. His farm was near Hallsville.10

The fifth United States Census was taken in 1830. James was enumerated as "James Turner", head of a household at Boone County, Missouri. His household consisted of one male of 70 and under 80 years of age, and one female of 70 and under 80 years.11

Administration was granted for the estate of James Turner Sr. on 13 September 1834 at Boone County, Missouri. Enoch Turner was named as administrator. Full settlement was made on February 10, 1838.12
