Louis Burkey was born on 12 August 1838 at Hesse-Darmstadt.3 He was the son of Peter Burkey and Mary Magdaline Sipp.2 Louis married Catherine M. Ess, daughter of John W. Ess and Margaret Burkey, on 20 November 1866 at Audrain County, Missouri, in a ceremony performed by W. F. Elllington Minister of the Gospel.4 Louis died on 13 August 1897 at age 59 years and 1 day at Missouri.5 He was buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri.5
Louis immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1855.6

Louisa Burkey was born circa July 1869 at Missouri.3 She was the daughter of Louis Burkey and Catherine M. Ess.2,1 Louisa married J. Robbinson in 1899.4
Louisa was also known as Lutie Burkey.5
The tenth United States census was taken in 1880. Louisa was enumerated in the household of Peter Burkey as "Luisa Burkey", at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri. Her given age was 9 and her given place of birth was Missouri. She and her sisters were incorrectly listed as daughters of their grandfather, Peter Burkey.6
The twelfth United States census was taken in 1900. Louisa was enumerated in the household of J. Robbinson as his wife, "Louisia Robbinson", at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri. Her given age was 30, and she was said to have been born in Missouri in July 1869. She had been married for one year, and had no children.3
