     Louis Burkey was born on 12 August 1838 at Hesse-Darmstadt.3 He was the son of Peter Burkey and Mary Magdaline Sipp.2 Louis married Catherine M. Ess, daughter of John W. Ess and Margaret Burkey, on 20 November 1866 at Audrain County, Missouri, in a ceremony performed by W. F. Elllington Minister of the Gospel.4 Louis died on 13 August 1897 at age 59 years and 1 day at Missouri.5 He was buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri.5
     

Louis immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1855 .6

Louis Burkey became a citizen of the United States in July 1860 at Audrain County, Missouri. His country of allegiance had previously been Germany. By an act of legislature approved January 10, 1860 a Court of Common Pleas was created to be held at Sturgeon.      Margaret Burkey was born on 14 January 1834 at Germany.4 She was the daughter of Peter Burkey and Mary Magdaline Sipp.4,5 Conflicting evidence places her birth on 14 January 1835 at Germany.6,7 Margaret married Peter Burkey, son of Peter Burkey and Barbara Wick, on 13 March 1857 at Audrain County, Missouri, in a ceremony performed by Reverend Benjamin Owings.8 Margaret died on 31 December 1916 at age 82 years, 11 months and 17 days at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri.4,6 (Click on the icon to see the image.). Her given age was 65, and she was said to have been born in Germany in January 1835. She had been married for 43 years, and she was the mother of eight children, five of whom were living.9

Margaret was widowed 4 April 1902 at the age of 68, when her husband Peter Burkey died at Audrain County, Missouri.10

The thirteenth United States census was taken in 1910. Margaret was enumerated as "Margaret Burkey", head of a household at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri. Her given age was 75 and her given place of birth was Germany. She was a widow, and the mother of eight children, six of whom were living. The year she was said to have immigrated to the United States appears to be written as 1855. Her occupation was recorded as "own income", and she lived on a farm which she owned. Also enumerated in her household was Elanora Burkey.2

The cause of Margaret's death was lobar pneumonia, with contributing cause of senlitiy.4
