     Joella Naylor was born in December 1868 at Missouri.2 She married Henry Newton Ess, son of John W. Ess and Margaret Burkey, on 27 March 1890 at Audrain County, Missouri.1

At the age of 42, Joella was widowed 20 August 1911 when her husband Henry died at Saling Township, Audrain County, Missouri.4
