     James Madison Vaughn was born between 1838 and 1840 at South Carolina.3,4,5 He was the son of Archibald Vaughn and Elizabeth (?).2,1 James Madison married Sarah Ann E. Smith, daughter of William R. James served in the military as a private in the Confederate Army, assigned to Hampton Legion, Company F on 13 June 1861. He also spent some time at Camp Griffin, Virginia. He had typhoid in January, 1863, at Richmond Hospital in Virginia. From August to December, 1864, he was hospitalized with bronchitis at Jackson Hospital in Virginia.1
